Flying Around Mars

When NASA sends another rover to the surface of Mars next year, it will have a helicopter attached. The Mars Helicopter will be the first aircraft to fly on another planet! The small chopper will test controlled flight, in the thin Martian atmosphere. If successful, future helicopters will carry scientific instruments to explore Mars.

It’s National Trail Mix Day. That means you can take the last of all your bags of pretzels, peanuts, chocolate chips, pumpkin seeds, raisins, and whatever else you like, and mix them together. Then go for a long hike and eat your snack for energy! Yes, walking around your house counts!

Ready for a Giant Broken Leg

There’s a cast at the Northshore Orthopaedic and Spine Institute, that’s big enough to fit a 78-foot-tall person! The Illinois hospital constructed the cast to raise awareness of bone and joint health. The 12-foot-long, 5-foot-wide cast is the world’s largest, and you can sign it this weekend at the Westfield Mall in Skokie!

Monster of a Marshmallow

Today is Frankenstein Day. Lurch around like Dr. Frankenstein’s creature, or read the original book, written by Mary Shelley. Maybe Frankenstein should have electrified marshmallows instead, since it’s Toasted Marshmallow Day! Have a bonfire, and roast one on a stick, or watch a marshmallow grow huge in the microwave!

Don’t Forget to Pee

Personalized license plates can be fun. It’s a challenge to create a word or phrase using only 7 or 8 letters. Wendy Auger’s plates say something she’s told her kids for years: P-B-4-WE-GO! She’s fighting for the right to keep using it, after the New Hampshire Department of Motor Vehicles banned it for referencing excretory functions!
