Tonight is International Bat Night. Watch bats swoop around, eating insects. Did you know they can eat 1000 mosquitoes per hour? Other types of bats eat fruit, like the giant golden-crowned flying fox. It has a wingspan of 5 1/2 feet! Bats are also pollinators, like bees and butterflies. Bats are amazing!

Jump around like a monkey, because it’s Banana Lovers’ Day! What a perfect fruit. It comes already wrapped and it’s delicious! It’s also Tug-Of-War Day. 2 teams grab a rope and try to drag each other across a line. Vikings used to play over a fire pit, but a mud pit is more fun!

Baby Anteater Needs a Name

Last month, a giant anteater pup was born at the River Safari park in Singapore. The baby hasn’t been named yet, but you can vote for your favorite name on Wildlife Reserves Singapore’s Facebook page. You can choose Estrella, which means Star in Spanish, or Amazon, which is the giant anteater’s natural habitat.

Ketchup to This Record

A grocery store in the United Arab Emirates set a new world record for tallest packaged food display. The Carrefour store worked with the Heinz company, to create an 11-foot-tall tower of ketchup bottles! The tower took 48 hours to build. I wonder how many times it got knocked over in the process!

The Value of Friendship

2 Canadian women who have been best friends for over 50 years, just became millionaires. Susan Hook and Martha McCallum won the British Columbia Lottery prize of $2,000,000. They bought a ticket together and will share the prize. The friends, who live together, plan to continue to share a house. That friendship is priceless!

43-Year Reunion

Chris Smith’s high school class ring went missing 43 years ago, shortly after graduating. He lost it while skiing in Tennessee, but he and his Class of 76 ring were recently reunited! A man had returned it to the school hoping to locate its owner. His mom found it at a campground in Georgia years ago!

Kids Cure Cancer

2 Indonesian high-school students won the gold medal at the World Invention Creativity event in South Korea. Anggina Rafitri and Aysa Aurealya tested an extract of the Bajakah tree, which locals believe has medicinal powers. They treated a rat with cancerous tumors, and after 2 weeks, the rat was cancer-free! Next step: a lot more research!

Preserve the Parks

On this day in 19 16, the United States National Park Service was formed. Everyone can help protect the National Parks. A girl named Karina recently returned a rock, with an apology for taking it from the Smokey Mountains. Park rangers thanked her for understanding, if all visitors took a souvenir, 11,000,000 rocks per year would disappear!
