Turn off the TV and put down your screens today. It’s National Radio Day! The radio was invented in the late 18 100’s. Before television, people gathered around the radio to listen to shows, like Dragnet or Gunsmoke. It’s also World Mosquito Day. Mosquitoes spread malaria and other diseases. But they’re great food for bats!

Taking a photo of yourself with your pet can be frustrating, if they won’t look at the camera. That’s why there’s the Cat Selfie. It’s a hanging bell, that clips to the top of your phone. The ringing sound attracts your cat’s attention! I’m sure it would work for other animals, and babies too!

Orangutan Habitat is Disappearing

It’s International Orangutan Day, celebrating the expressive orange-haired apes. They are an endangered species, found only in Borneo and Sumatra. While orangutans grow only about 5 feet tall, their arm span can reach 7 feet from tip to tip! Palm oil plantations are the biggest threat to the wild population, destroying their rainforest homes.

Send a Potato Flying

The perfect thing to do today would be, to fly around in a little plane, taking pictures of potato fields, with bows in your hair. That’s because it’s International Bow Day, World Photography Day, Potato Day, and Aviation Day. At the very least, spoon mashed potatoes into your mouth like an airplane!

Kids Helping Kids

Aiden and Chloe Quezada might be only 6 and 4 years old, but they’re busy raising money to buy school supplies for kids and teachers. Their family started making their favorite snack, pinwheel crisps, to sell in Minnesota. They’ve already made a profit of $460, and made their first donation to Stuff The Bus’s school supply drive!

Beware of Squawkzilla

Over a decade ago, fossilized bird bones were found in New Zealand, and stored on a shelf. A graduate student recently took a closer look at the 16,000,000-year-old leg bones, and the research team discovered they were actually from a prehistoric parrot! Nicknamed Squawkzilla, it was as large as a human child!

A Pumpkin Spice Too Far?

When Autumn arrives, so does Pumpkin Spice-flavored everything. Some of those foods are already hitting the grocery stores. One product was originally an April Fools joke: Pumpkin Spice Spam. The company decided to actually put the flavored canned meat on the market. I think I’ll stick to pumpkin spice lattes!
