Electric School Buses Coming

Some students in California, may start the new school year riding to school, on clean electric buses! The California Energy Commission approved funding, to replace 200 diesel school buses around the state. They will not only make the roads a little less polluted, but let kids breathe cleaner air while they go to school!

Ice Cream and Junk

Today is Junk Food Day, so don’t worry about having a well-balanced meal. Eat all the junk you want! Luckily, it’s also Ice Cream Day. Many places will give out free or discounted ice cream today. PetSmart will even have free ice cream for your dog, with a doggie biscuit on top!

Reuse Those Dorm Furnishings

Last year, Virginia Commonwealth University noticed a lot of perfectly good items getting dumped, when students moved out of the dorm rooms. They decided to collect those items, and open the VCU Free Store in the fall. Students can shop for free furniture, art supplies, appliances, and electronics, and keep it out of landfills!

Jumpity Jump!

In 2006, German artist Torsten Lauschmann, proposed an event where 600,000,000 people in the Western Hemisphere would jump at the same time, to change the Earth’s orbit and standardize the climate. It was meant to be a satirical art event, drawing attention to global warming. Celebrate World Jump Day, by jumping as high as you can!

50 Years Since the Moon Walk

Today is a very special Moon Day. 50 years ago, the Apollo 11 mission successfully landed the first men on the Moon. Neil Armstrong took the first steps on the Moon, and Buzz Aldrin followed. Meanwhile, Michael Collins orbited the Moon in the Columbia Command Module. Only 8 other people have walked on the Moon since then!

Incredible Journey

24 years ago, a man drank a bottle of whiskey, stuck a note in it, and threw it into Lake Michigan. The note said that if someone found it, he’d buy them a drink. Gary Henrickson just found the bottle floating, in Florida! The phone number was still good; I hope the author pays up!
