Butterflies Are Back

California has been declared drought-free, for the first time in over 7 years. There had been below-average amounts of rain and snow. But the return of precipitation has caused the water reservoirs to refill, wildflowers to bloom, and the return of massive numbers of butterflies. Millions of painted lady butterflies are migrating across California!

Today is National Panda Day, celebrating the lovable black and white fur-balls. The endangered giant panda lives in China, and has a diet of bamboo. They eat for up to 14 hours a day! They only weigh 4 ounces at birth, but grow to be 350 pounds. Instead of hibernating like other bears, pandas play in the snow!

Con Edison, the utility company in New York, needs to be more careful. A man in Queens received a bill for $38,000,000! It was soon corrected to $74. Maria Sprizzo knows how he feels. She’s been getting 5000 dollar power bills, for the utility pole outside her home! The bills have her address, and the word “pole.”

Beware the Ides of March. That’s today! But unless you’re Julius Caesar, you’re safe. Julius Caesar was a Roman leader, who was assassinated March 15th, in 44 BC. That line is from a play by William Shakespeare, when a soothsayer was warning Caesar that his life was in danger. It’s fun to say it ominously!

Sanibel Island, in Florida, is home to lots of wildlife. The Sanibel Island Golf Course is frequently visited by alligators. American crocodiles have also been spotted on the island, and one has recently started hanging out, with the alligators on the golf course! It’s a great opportunity to spot the differences, between crocs and gators!

One year ago, the first permitted 3D home was built in Texas. Now, using a Vulcan 2 printer, the people that built it, are beginning construction of 50 more homes, for poor families. Imagine, a whole neighborhood built with a 3D printer! Vulcan printers are being purchased around the world, so houses could pop up anywhere!
