It’s also Poinsettia Day, a plant indigenous to Mexico. Its vibrant red and green leaves make it a favorite around Christmas, and it has tiny yellow flowers.

Kevin Fenwick is thanking his kids for missing the bus. He usually buys a lottery ticket every day on his way to work. Since he had to drive his kids to school, he bought his ticket at a different location, and won $50,000! Maybe they need to miss the bus more often!

The Osiris-REx spacecraft, which recently reached the Bennu asteroid, has sent back its first readings. It appears the asteroid once held liquid water! The data showed hydrated minerals, which are minerals that have interacted with water. The spacecraft will search for a spot to land and take samples. Who knows what they’ll find!

Around the world, coal mines are going unused as cleaner fuels become more popular. But in the UK, scientists have found a new use for 150,000 abandoned mine shafts. They make great indoor farms! Using 95% less water than land farms, they need no pesticides, and are unaffected by weather. Coal mine farming sounds perfect!

A group of 835 tuba players broke a world record last week for the biggest tuba ensemble. The musicians, ranging in age from 11 to 86, performed at the annual TubaChristmas concert in Kansas City Missouri. They played Silent Night to set the record, but I don’t think it was very silent in that auditorium!

Tonks, an aye-aye that was born in August at the Denver Zoo, is finally meeting the public. The nocturnal lemur and her parents, Bellatrix and Smeagol, can be hard to spot. If you visit them, let your eyes adjust to the darkened habitat and look up in the trees!

In Minnesota, a semi truck got stuck going up the icy driveway of Lizzie and Jacob Hershberger. The couple harnessed their Belgian draft horses to the truck, to try to help. The 2 horses pulled the semi right up the steep hill! Sometimes, instead of an engine with lots of horsepower, you need horse power!
