A new study in the UK showed that planting hedges along roadsides, can help clean the air we breathe. Hedges reduced black carbon by up to 63%, and cut back on other harmful metals as well. If you live near roads, planting a nice row of shrubbery could improve your lung health!

There’s a use for recycled bottles that could circle the Earth. MacRebur’s recycles plastic into pellets, that are mixed into the asphalt used to pave roads! Right now, an ingredient called bitumen is used, but that’s made from fossil fuels. Adding plastic reduces the need for bitumen, and makes longer-lasting roads!

An 11 year-old boy, Advaik Nandikotkur, was at his apartment’s pool with his family, when he saw a man drowning. He was the only one at the pool who could swim, so dove down and towed him to the surface. Advaik’s dad performed CPR to revive him. The grateful man has a new hero!

89 year-old Maisie Green loves dogs. She knits blankets and coats for dogs at her local animal shelter in the UK. It takes her 3 days to knit a blanket, and 1 day to knit a coat. The Basildon Dogs Trust encourages people to help by donating blankets, but no one can match Maisie’s 450 donations!

You can brave temperatures around negative 60 degrees Fahrenheit, to see the greatest point of eclipse in Russia, near the Pole of Cold, Earth’s coldest permanently inhabited spot.

Today is National Bird Day. There are around 18,000 different bird species! The largest non-flying bird is the ostrich, the kori bustard is the biggest that can fly, and the wandering albatross has the largest wingspan at up to 11 feet! The bee hummingbird is smallest at 2 1/4 inches long. The Australian lyrebird sounds like R2-D2!
