Make More Leftover Pie

Today is Leftovers Day. Heat up round two of your Thanksgiving feast, to eat all the leftovers before they get moldy in the fridge. You can always combine leftovers, into a big pot of soup. Save room for dessert, because it’s also Lemon Cream Pie Day. You can never have too much pie!

Because yesterday was Thanksgiving Day, today is You’re Welcome-Giving Day. It’s the polite thing to do! Plan your lunch: it’s Maize Day, the original name for corn. Since it’s Sinkie Day, eat over the sink, and you’ll have nothing to clean up! Finally, floss the kernels out of your teeth. It’s Flossing Day!

Do you ever ask your parents or grandparents, about life when they were young? Today is a Day Of Listening, to encourage people to set aside time, and record their family’s stories. You could conduct an interview, with a list of questions, or just enjoy stories about the old days. Don’t forget snacks!

In the United States, the day after Thanksgiving is known as Black Friday. It’s when many people start holiday shopping, and stores have big sales. If the crowds are too much for you, celebrate Buy Nothing Day instead. Some people even organize Zombie walks, wandering blankly around stores, filling their baskets with nothing!

A Hairy Competition

The National Dog Show takes place today in Philadelphia Pennsylvania. 2,000 dogs of 205 different breeds will compete, for the top title of Best In Show. Dogs are broken into 7 categories, including sporting, terrier, toy, hound, non-sporting, working, and herding. Which group would your dog fall into? Watch the furry contest on TV.

Our Planetary Neighbor

Today is Red Planet Day, named for the planet Mars. It looks like a reddish-orange star in the night sky. Mars is red because the surface is full of iron oxide. It’s rusty! We’ve sent multiple rovers to its surface, to explore and take pictures. Someday, humans might live on Mars!

Your Head Says Bonjour

Today is French Toast Day. Some people call them bread-eggs, because you make them by soaking slices of bread, in a milk and egg mixture, before cooking them on a skillet. It’s also Make Your Own Head Day. Sculpt a replica of your head, using clay, paper mache, or maybe even french toast!

What Are You Thankful For?

Today in the United States, it’s Thanksgiving Day. In 1621, in Plymouth Massachusetts, English colonists and the Wampanoag people, who had helped the colonists survive the winter, celebrated with a harvest feast that lasted several days. The Native Americans had taught them to grow corn, squash and beans. Maybe you’ll eat some today. Happy Thanksgiving!

Welcoming a Baby Elephant

The Saint Louis Zoo in Missouri, announced a new baby was born. His mom’s name is Jade, and she’s an Asian elephant. Asian elephants are endangered in the wild. The elephant calf, named Jet, is bonding with his mom in an off-exhibit area. You can visit the big baby in the spring.
