7200 Year-Old Cheese

I’ve heard of aged cheddar, but some pottery found in Croatia contains 7200 year old cheese! Ceramic pieces excavated from Neolithic sites along the Dalmatian Coast were used to make and store products like cheese and yogurt. The pots used to hold dairy products, were often shaped like animals. Maybe they were Neolithic kids cups!

Go Out and Play!

The World Health Organization’s latest report says, many people aren’t getting enough exercise. 1.4 billion adults are at risk for diseases caused by low levels of physical activity. Adults should get at least 30 minutes of exercise every day. Kids versus adults soccer or basketball is great exercise! Everyone just needs to go outside and play!

Counting Crickets

I hear crickets chirping! Male crickets chirp to attract females, by rubbing their wings together. Crickets can also tell you the temperature outside! Count how many times a cricket chirps in 14 seconds, then add 40, for an approximate temperature in degrees Fahrenheit. For Celsius, count the chirps in 25 seconds, divide by 3, then add 4.

Calling Dr. Ant

African Matabele ants are fierce warriors, attacking their termite prey on a daily basis and getting hurt in the process. But those who are injured are treated by fellow ants! The wounded calmly wait while a medic licks them until they recover enough to move on, or be carried back to the nest.
