Octopus Nursery Discovered

Marine scientists have discovered an octopus nursery off the coast of California! In the crevices of an extinct volcano, more than 1000 octopuses are huddled upside down, protecting their eggs. It’s the largest gathering of octopuses scientists have ever seen, as they were thought to be solitary creatures. Maybe they’re not loners after all!

Bad Luck Turns into Good Luck

87 year-old Earl Livingston broke his hip last week, while walking to the store to buy a Mega Millions lottery ticket. That’s bad luck, right? But at the hospital, the nurses let him join the employees’ lottery pool, where people buy tickets together and share the winnings. They won $1,000,000! Earl was their good luck charm!

Big Bird Likes Golf

Golfers at the Evesham Golf Club, in Worcestershire England, have welcomed a new bird to their club. A rhea, which is similar to an emu or an ostrich, but smaller, has been wandering around. The golfers have named him Linford, and say he’s relaxed and not causing problems, so they’re happy to have him!

French Spider-Man Strikes Again

Last week, the French Spider-Man climbed one of London’s tallest buildings, the Heron Tower. Alain Thompson has illegally climbed many of the world’s tallest structures, including the Eiffel Tower and the Empire State Building, without using ropes or safety gear. After reaching the top, he was arrested for being a public nuisance!

Swirling Dust, Trapped Forever

Hungarian researchers have confirmed that Two clouds of dust are orbiting the Earth. The Kordylewski clouds are stuck between the competing gravitational fields of the Moon and the Earth. These spots are called Lagrange points. The dust trapped there is too faint to photograph, but polarimetry could detect the whirling clouds 250,000 miles away!
