The brown booby is a large seabird found in tropical areas like the Caribbean Sea. But one recently took a vacation to Prince Edward Island Canada. Passengers on the ferry from Caribou Nova Scotia, to Wood Islands noticed the booby hitching a ride. He stayed overnight, then returned on the ferry the next morning!

The honey mushrooms growing on trees in Crystal Falls Michigan, are part of a single 2500 year-old organism that stretches throughout 90 acres of forest and weighs 880,000 pounds. But it’s still a baby compared to the 8500 year-old, 2384 acre specimen in Oregon!

This week, the New England Aquarium honored 84 year-old Wilson Menashi. He has volunteered over 8000 hours at the aquarium, mostly working with octopuses. The cephalopods needed entertainment, so he created toys and puzzles for them to solve. Wilson is a retired engineer, who has found a new calling in his friendship with the intelligent octopuses!

Kenneth Capron has an idea for using an old cruise ship docked in Maine. He got permission to work on Hope Harbor, a project that will provide temporary housing, social services, and job skills training on the ship. It can house up to 800 homeless people and others who need shelter.

A teenager from Louisiana has become the youngest pilot to fly around the world. 18 year-old Mason Andrews made his solo trip in 76 days, which was 36 days longer than he’d anticipated. He ran into sandstorms in Saudi Arabia, and typhoons in the Philippines. He also raised $30,000 for the MedCamps of Louisiana Charity!

Last week Claire Simeone, who works at a vet hospital in Hawaii, kept getting phone calls where no one would speak. Thinking there was an emergency, she hurried back from lunch. Lots of other people were also getting mysterious calls. It turned out to be a tiny gecko sitting on a touchscreen, foot-dialing everyone!

Flint Michigan’s school system is getting brand new water filtration stations, thanks to a $480,000 donation from Elon Musk. The ultraviolet systems will clean the lead from the water, making it safe for the students to drink. Next, Musk wants to install filtration systems in the remaining homes that still have lead in the water.

A swarm of 10,000 bees showed up to a Cincinnati Ohio restaurant, but they weren’t there for food. The were looking for a new place to live! The swarm was resting on the Sunny Deli’s sign, so a chef who keeps beehives came to the rescue. The new hive will soon sweeten his restaurant’s food!
