Twin Red Pandas Born

The Rosamond Gifford Zoo in New York, announced its newest additions. They have twin baby red pandas! 2 male cubs, Loofah and Doofah, were born June 21st. They are being bottle-fed, because the mother was having trouble taking care of them. Red pandas are endangered, and live in China and the Himalayas.

Clark Kent, Super-Swimmer

Clark Kent Apuda doesn’t just share Superman’s name. The 10 year-old boy is also a super-swimmer! He just beat one of Olympic swimmer Michael Phelps’s records! Clark swam the 100-meter butterfly a full second faster than the previous record, set in 1995. Clark has been swimming competitively for only 3 years. He’s just getting started!

Flexibility Equals More Fun

A surprising study shows that when you schedule fun things, they are less fun. One scenario told students to take a cookie break. The students who had to go at a specific time, reported less enjoyment than those who could go during a two-hour period. Try rough scheduling, like meeting Saturday afternoon instead of 2:30.

July in Death Valley was Hot

Now that July is over, it’s been officially declared the hottest month in history, in the hottest place on Earth. Death Valley California, had 21 days in July where the temperature was at least 120 degrees Fahrenheit, which is 49 degrees Celsius. Last week, temperatures reached 127 degrees! The weather station is at Furnace Creek, 190 feet below sea level.

Eaglet Found Uninjured

Victory and Valor are eaglets that hatched 3 months ago, and had been testing their wings. The whole world could watch them grow up on dceaglecam.org, but theĀ  eagle-cam lost track of Valor when he slipped out of the nest Friday. Thankfully, he’s been found! He’ll be returned to his nest, 80 feet up a tree.
