Don’t Forget the Sunblock!

Ugh, I hate putting sunblock on my face! But when you spend time in the sun, sunblock can protect your skin from getting burned. Just putting lotion on in the morning is not enough. Dermatologists, or skin doctors, say you should reapply at least every 2 hours for the best protection! Keep your skin healthy!

3-D Print a Sweet Heart

Scientists can grow tissue in a lab, and are working on growing organs to use as transplants and save lives. Now they can use 3-D printers to print a scaffold out of sugar! The sugar structure serves as a base for tissue to grow on, and it later dissolves, leaving pathways for blood vessels. Sweet!

Ice Cream Makes History More Fun

Hannah Spiegelman is an ice cream maker and historian who writes a blog called, “A Sweet History”. She researches historical figures and events to create her ice cream flavors. Charcoal ice cream with pomegranate swirl represents the underworld and Persephone from Greek mythology. Stonehenge inspired a vanilla flavor with honey, oats and hazelnuts. Now I’m hungry!

Today is National Cellophane Tape Day. Artist Mark Jenkins makes sculptures out of tape, and teaches you how on the website TapeSculpture.org. It’s also National Grape Popsicle Day. 11 year-old Frank Epperson invented them in 1905, when he left a stick in his grape soda and it froze. Popsicles were originally called Eppsicles!

In hopes of “Celebrating York’s Unity Through 10,000 Acts of Kindness,” they want to fill 1000 tables over a mile and a half long, and break the world record!
