The dust storm that started on Mars at the end of May, has grown. The storm now encircles the planet. The Mars rover, Opportunity, had to shut down because it is solar powered. A second rover, Curiosity, is nuclear powered. It can continue studying the dust storm from the other side of the planet!

Dog Gets Lost, Finds Fame

Matt Nelson and his mom tried to find the owner of a dog they found, by posting pictures of the corgi on Matt’s Twitter page, “We Rate Dogs.” His 7 million followers were no help. Mrs. Nelson spotted an elderly man in a car and asked him. Miraculously, Pepper was his! And Pepper is now famous!

Warm Whirlpools Full of Sharks

Marine biologists have discovered surprising news about great white sharks. They like to hang out in warm-water eddies. The eddies are giant ocean whirlpools that spin clockwise in Earth’s Northern hemisphere. Even though cold-water eddies have more food and nutrients, sharks can spend more time in deeper water if it’s warm.

I Smell a World Record

Have you ever seen a garlic braid? It’s a way to store bulbs of garlic by weaving the leaves together, until you have a rope of garlic bulbs. Dimitra Athanasova Tzoridou, is a Greek garlic knitter, who just broke the record for the longest garlic braid. The braid of 20,000 bulbs is 2008 feet long!

Happy Birthday Parade

When asked what she wanted for her 107th birthday, Myda Lewis had two wishes. She wanted to ride in a convertible with the top down in a parade, and she wanted everyone to just be happy. So the people of Stillwater Oklahoma had a birthday parade just for her, and both of her wishes came true!
