Abby Leathers named her dog Bruce after Bruce Wayne, aka Batman. It turns out he’s also a superhero! He led Abby to a pond where a confused elderly woman was standing in knee-deep in cold water. Her family had reported her missing, and she returned home safely thanks to Bruce. Good boy!

Today is International Tug-of-War Day. It’s an ancient game of strength that used to be an Olympic sport, where 2 teams pull on a rope in opposite directions. The Vikings used to play tug-of-war over a fire pit! All you really need is a rope and a bunch of people. Heave!

An online exhibition by the New York Academy of Medicine contains a fascinating anatomy book. “Fasciculus Medicinae”, printed in 1491 and revised throughout the 16th century, shows the evolution of medicine. Illustrations of Disease Man, Wound Man and Zodiac Man taught doctors methods to diagnose the plague, treat arrow wounds, and let blood.

A high school basketball game in Carroll County Missouri this week showcased kindness. One team had only one cheerleader. The rest of her squad was sick and she seemed embarrassed to have to perform on her own. So cheerleaders from the opposing team learned some of her cheers and joined her! Hooray!

254 people in Queensland Australia broke the world record for the largest aqua aerobics class. The Bundamba Swim Centre hosted the class and students’ fees raised funds for the Ipswich Hospital Foundation. It’s summer in Australia, so dancing to “YMCA” in the pool was a great way to exercise in the heat!
