The Quadrantids meteor shower, is active right now. The meteors are caused by space debris, from a metallic asteroid called 2003 EH1. The showers peak on January 3rd , but the new Moon tonight means especially dark skies, so you can see them better. Dress warmly, and wish on lots of falling stars.

A Big Milky Mess

Butterflies Winter Over at the Beach

Every year Western monarch butterflies show up, in California’s Pismo Beach Butterfly Grove. Park rangers track the butterflies’ migration each year, as they arrive by the thousands. The orange-and-black butterflies, quietly flutter on every tree, like a beautiful living curtain. You can visit the spectacular butterfly show, until the migration tapers off in February.
