A team of divers called PTO Exploration set a new world record for deepest dive under ice. The group dove 433 feet into Mazinaw Lake in Ontario Canada. The world record was a bonus; the team’s purpose was to search for Indigenous artifacts beneath 1500 year-old pictographs painted on a rock face. More explorations are planned.

Border shmorder. A wild Asian elephant was filmed stepping right over the barriers marking the border between Laos and China. To keep the elephant safe, border guards alerted nearby residents. 300 elephants live in the rainforest in Yunnan Province China, but in winter they make illegal crossings to forage for food.

The second full moon this month arrives tomorrow, called a blue moon. Plus it’s a supermoon, when the moon’s closest to Earth. There’ll also be a lunar eclipse which gives the moon a red tint, called a blood moon. Your best view could be at dawn; research today and watch the super-blue-blood-moon tomorrow!

Yum-yum-yum, today is National Croissant Day. Crescent-shaped rolls have been around since at least the 13th century, but the secret to the flaky croissants we love today is laminated dough. Laminating is folding butter into the dough making multiple thin layers. It makes an airy, buttery pastry. I’ll take a chocolate croissant, please!

18 year-old James Meiergerd made the news this month when he nailed a trick shot at a basketball game. He made a backwards half-court basket! The Harlem Globetrotters have invited the Nebraska teen, who has Down syndrome, to be their guest when they play in Omaha. James is his hometown’s hero!

Australian Feliks Zemdegs matched a world record held by Steve Cho when he solved a Rubik’s cube in 4.59 seconds. Feliks says he’s no math whiz; he just looked up some online tutorials on YouTube and got addicted. He started when he was 12 and has been improving his time for the last 10 years.

When Rocket Lab launched its Electron rocket this month, its payload included the Humanity Star. The satellite is a 65-sided carbon ball that looks like a giant mirrored Dungeons and Dragons die. It will orbit Earth for nine months and look like a shooting star. Annoyed astronomers are calling it space graffiti.

Naked mole rats, found in East Africa, can survive 18 minutes without oxygen, are immune to cancer, and do not feel pain. They are mammals, but they’re cold-blooded and live in underground colonies with a queen and workers like ants. Researchers now discovered these supercreatures don’t age! Naked mole rats are awesome!

As the planet warms and glaciers recede, more ancient artifacts are becoming exposed. Archaeologists have discovered a treasure trove of more than 2000 objects on ice sheets in Norway. The relics include skis, weapons, bones and clothes, some dating back to 4000 BC. They’re doing their best to preserve artifacts as the ice melts.
