Christian Thomas, at age 9, just became the youngest hiker to complete the three trails that make up the Triple Crown of United States hiking. Since the age of 5 he has hiked nearly 8000 miles! Congratulations Christian!

A Great Pyrenees dog named Odin is being credited with saving eight goats from flames in the California fires last month by staying behind and herding them to safety. Several small orphaned deer had also found their way to Odin and remained safe under his care. What a great pet!

Amelia Fox, who goes to school in Australia, will be heading to NASA as her prize for winning a national invention contest by creating a wheelchair attachment that allows you to easily lift someone out of the chair during transfer. This was inspired by watching her parents struggle to transfer her brother Jake when he came out of surgery. Great thinking!

Abram, a 4th grader in Michigan, received a lifetime membership award as the Youth Innovator of the Year for 2017 by the Grand Rapids Inventors Network. During a heat wave, Abram got the idea to make an air conditioner that would cool his classmates. Using a Rubbermaid tub, frozen water bottles, a towel and a fan, he was able to lower the temperature of the room by several degrees. What a cool invention!

An exoplanet that appears to be inside of a bulge at the core of our galaxy where most of the stars reside was recently discovered. But this no ordinary exoplanet! This planet is over 13 times bigger than Jupiter. The planet has been named OGLE-2016-BLG-1190-L-B. Oh rats! That’s the same name I was planning to name one of my children. Ha Ha.

According to National Geographic, scientists have discovered a new species of orangutan in Sumatra, now called a Tapanuli. The Tapanuli population numbers only around 800 apes making it the rarest great ape species on the planet.

A teenage girl in England named Abbie Bannon saw her friend in a river drowning. She jumped into action, leapt into the icy cold river, and pulled her friend to safety. The rescue was complicated by the fact that her friend suffers from epilepsy. Way to go Abbie! We all need a friend like you!

Here’s a slimy news update. A young entrepreneur named Madison Greenspan and a group of exceptional young people broke the Guinness World Record for making the most amount of slime at the same time. They were able to produce approximately 13,820 pounds of purple slime. That is a lot of slime! I hope they washed their hands afterwards!

In Israel this past week, a young hippopotamus casually strolled out of an open gate at the zoo. After two minutes she came back on her own. I guess even teenager like hippos want to experience the world, even if only for a couple of minutes.
