Today is Eggnog Day. Also known as egg milk punch (which I think sounds kind of gross), eggnog is a drink made from milk, cream, sugar, spices and eggs. It’s also good in coffee! Sometimes it’s served spiked with liquor, so make sure you ask an adult, before you drink any!

In 1997, a character in the TV show Seinfeld, made up a holiday called Festivus, because he thought Christmas was too commercialized. The rest of us now celebrate Festivus. They have the Airing of Grievances during dinner, perform Feats of Strength by wrestling, and perform Festivus Miracles, like getting groceries into the house without tripping.

The Perfect Tree Topper

A family in Virginia had finished decorating their Christmas tree, but an owl decided to add one last ornament. The big barred owl flew down the chimney, knocked over the star on top of their tree, and perched itself there instead. Animal Welfare safely captured the owl and released it outside.

Thick-Billed Parrot Population is Recovering

There’s good news about the thick-billed parrot, a bird once found in the southwest United States and Mexico. The species has been in danger of extinction for decades, but protection efforts are working. The number of thick-billed parrots has increased by 10%, to around 2,500 individuals. Reforestation has been a key to success.

A Unique Way to Slice Kiwis

Today is Kiwi Fruit Day. Before you eat the fuzzy fruit, have David Rush slice it up for you. He set a world record, by slicing kiwis with a sword, while standing on a balance board. His record-setting accomplice Jonathan Hannon, threw kiwis at David, who successfully sliced 65 of them.
