Wear Your Fox Socks

"When beetles battle beetles in a puddle paddle battle
and the beetle battle puddle is a puddle in a bottle...
...they call this a tweetle beetle bottle puddle paddle battle muddle."

It’s National Read Across America Day, also known as Dr. Seuss Day. Read Fox in Socks, or another Seuss favorite to celebrate!

Eaglets Could Hatch Any Day Now

Eagles all over North America are starting to lay eggs. Eagle pairs add to the same nest year after year, building them up to 8 feet deep and 9 feet wide! California eagles Jackie and Shadow, have 3 eggs on pip watch. You can watch too, at Friends of Big Bear Valley.org.

Who Else Has Your Name?

Do you know, if you were named after someone special? Sometimes baby names honor a beloved family member, a favorite place, a character from a story, a historical figure, or someone famous. Find out what your names mean, and why your parents chose them for you, to celebrate Namesake Day.

Banana Cream Sandwich

I can’t wait to eat dessert, because it’s Banana Cream Pie Day! Find an easy recipe online, and tuck your bananas into a bed of custard. If you want to be really lazy, dip a banana in pudding, spray whipped cream on top, and eat it between 2 graham crackers.

I Used to Love This Toy!

Do you have any old stuff lying around the house? Gather it all up, because it’s Old Stuff Day! Play with your old toys, figure out which old clothes you’ve outgrown, and take a look at your old bad habits. Now get rid of anything you don’t need, and enjoy what’s left!

Give Your Cat a Hat

Today is Dr Seuss’s birthday. His books, like The Cat In the Hat, and Green Eggs and Ham, help children everywhere learn to read. It’s also International Rescue Cat Day, the perfect time to adopt a cat from a shelter. Perhaps a stray cat has already adopted you. Give him a stripey hat!

Ramadan Mubarak

Today is the beginning of Ramadan, the Islamic holy month of prayer and fasting. Most Muslims will fast from dawn until dusk each day, meaning no food or drink while the sun is shining. They celebrate a meal with family or friends at night. Some communities decorate with outdoor lights, like at Christmas.

Be Kind to Horses and Pigs

If you live on a farm, every day might include horses and pigs. The rest of us should also think about them today, because it’s Horse Protection Day and Pig Day. Charlotte’s Web, and Black Beauty, are great books to read, to learn how to treat pigs and horses, with respect and kindness.

Draw a Smile in the Compote

Today is Share A Smile Day. It’s the easiest gift you can give to anyone, even if you don’t know them, and it’s free! The best part is, you’ll probably get a smile in return. It’s also Fruit Compote Day, which is another name for delicious-sweet-syrupy-fruit-that-you-put-on-top-of-pancakes. Blackberry compote’s my favorite.

You’re Awesome!

“You’re looking especially creamy today Ms Peanut Butter.”
“Thank you Mr Peanut Butter! You sound crunchy! And Lil’ Peanut, your jar is so shiny!”
“Aw shucks Mama. You guys are the best parents in the world!”
It’s Peanut Butter Lover’s Day and World Compliment Day. Eat peanut butter and say nice things to everyone!
