Today is World Radio Day. Before TV, families used to listen to radio shows together. It’s great for new music. But radio is important for more than entertainment. In 1946, United Nations Radio was established to help connect the world. Radio still reaches parts of the world, that don’t have internet service or television signals.

Have you ever played frisbee golf? You have to fly a frisbee into 18 baskets scattered around a course, with as few throws as possible. Jonathan Wolfrath set a world record for the fastest round of disc golf, completing 18 holes in 4 minutes and 58 seconds. I wonder if he got any holes-in-one.

Avoiding a Cat-astrophic Flight

A sneaky kitty caused trouble, for Ryanair. A flight from Italy to Germany delayed takeoff, after a stowaway cat climbed deep inside the plane. The crew heard meows coming from the electrical bay, but the cat was unreachable. They left the door open until the cat left on its own, 2 days later.

Pennies Might Be Discontinued

Find a penny, pick it up, all the day you’ll have good luck. It’s always lucky to find money! Today is Lost Penny Day. The United States may stop making pennies soon, so save your 2025 pennies. They might be worth a lot one day! Pre-1982 pennies are already worth 2-3 cents each.

Giant Hugs Are the Best

Today is Paul Bunyan Day, named for the giant North American lumberjack, and Babe, his big blue ox. Legend says Paul Bunyan sawed the legs off his parents’ bed when he was 7 months old, and formed the Great Lakes as watering holes for Babe. It’s also Hug Day. Who needs a giant hug?

The Plum of Christmas Past

Today is Plum Pudding Day. Also called Christmas pudding, a tradition is for the whole family to hold onto a wooden spoon and make a wish while stirring the batter together. In the 17th century, raisins and other fruits were called plums, so don’t be surprised if your recipe doesn’t have plums in it!
