Next week, on March 13th to 14th, a total lunar eclipse will occur. When the sun and moon are on opposite sides of the planet, called syzygy, the Earth’s shadow falls on the moon, making it appear red. Unlike a solar eclipse, you don’t need eye protection to view a blood moon.

On March 7th 1876, Alexander Graham Bell received the first patent for a telephone. A patent gives the owner the rights to their invention. Elisha Gray and Antonio Meucci also invented versions of the telephone, but Bell got his patent first! Celebrate Alexander Graham Bell Day, by talking to someone on a phone.

How do you like to eat your fruits, nuts and grains? Since it’s Cereal Day and Flapjack Day, you can experiment! Have pancakes with walnuts and blueberries, oatmeal with pecans and peaches, and cornflakes with bananas and almond milk. It sounds like a delicious all-day breakfast is on today’s menu.

Did you know there’s a Vegetable Orchestra in Vienna Austria? The performers play vegetable instruments, such as carrot recorders and leek mandolins. After playing 344 concerts together, the group earned a world record for most concerts by a vegetable orchestra. They carve new instruments for every show, since the old ones wither and rot.

Vampire Sneeze into Your Invisible Cape

Springtime brings allergies for many people, and you could be super-sneezy. Remember to sneeze into your elbow! Also, wash your hands with soap for 20 seconds, every time you blow your nose. Boil and Filter Water for Less Plastic

Microplastics have been found in the human bloodstream, because we eat and drink microscopic pieces all the time. Scientists found an easy way, to remove many microplastics from drinking water. When water is boiled, plastic is trapped by minerals in the water, which can then be filtered out by pouring through a steel mesh.

Unfreeze the Cheesecake

Before you get dressed today, you should know it’s Dress Day. Dress up in a dress! It’s also White Chocolate Cheesecake Day, and Frozen Food Day. Clarence Birdseye discovered, flash freezing food keeps it tasty! Frozen fruits and veggies are just as nutritious as fresh ones. Celebrate with frozen cheesecake and a tv dinner.

Today’s the day, for cookies. We’re in the middle of Chocolate Chip Cookie Week, but it’s also Oreo Cookie Day. The chocolate cookie and creme filling sandwiches were introduced in 1912, but Oreos have also come in lots of variations. Mint, birthday cake, Coca Cola, Space Dunk, and java chip, are some recent flavors.
