Today is Worldwide Candle Lighting Day. At 7 PM, light candles to honor those you have lost, and keep the wave of light traveling around the world. It’s also Choral Day, so sing songs while you gather around the candles. If it’s your birthday, sing Happy Birthday last, so you can blow them out!

Climb a Big Bagel Mountain

Today is Have A Bagel Day. The dense and chewy bread can be toasted, and topped with anything you like! Take a bagel sandwich, to eat on a hike in the mountains. It’s International Mountain Day! You could ski down a mountain, draw a picture of a mountain, or sculpt one from mashed potatoes!

Rare Baby Tapir Born

There are less than 2,500 Malayan tapirs remaining in the wild, but at least there’s one more in captivity. The Chester Zoo in England, welcomed a new baby tapir, named Nessa, born to mother Margery, and father Betong. Tapirs are animals that kind of resemble a pig, with a short trunk like an elephant.

I Think I’ll Cover My Toothbrush

When you flush the toilet, do you close the lid first? Scientists took a video of a flushing toilet, and used lasers to illuminate all the invisible water droplets that flew into the air. Considering the water holds poop and pee, it’s disgusting to see that stuff floating around your bathroom. Yuck!

New Nobel Laureates Named

Today is Nobel Day, when the prestigious Nobel Prizes are awarded. The first Nobel Prizes were given out, 121 years ago, according to Alfred Nobel’s last wishes. Each year, people around the world win Nobel Prizes of 10,000,000 Swedish kronor, in the categories of Peace, Physics, Literature, Chemistry, Economics, and Physiology or Medicine.

Today is Gingerbread Decorating Day. Start by making gingerbread cookies, and give them faces and clothes drawn with icing. Soon, you’ll be ready to decorate a gingerbread house, with gumdrops and peppermints. Finally, you’ll be ready to be mayor, of your own gingerbread city! Don’t eat it, or you’ll be out of a job.

Today is Dewey Decimal System Day. When you go to the library to look for a book, you’re probably using Melvil Dewey’s classification system, which he invented in 18 76. You’ll see the number on the spine of the book, which lets librarians know exactly where to file it!
