Years ago, David Hole found an unusual rock in Australia. He was convinced the heavy rock had gold in it, but he couldn’t make a crack in it no matter what he tried. He finally took the specimen to the Melbourne Museum to be identified. It was actually a meteorite, 4.6 billion years old!

Last week, racers on a charity run in North Carolina, were joined by an energetic dog. The terrier jogged alongside the runners for 15 miles! He was taken to a shelter to find his family, but they couldn’t keep Max anymore. Luckily, a couple who loves to run, adopted Max. They’ve jogged 20 miles in 3 days!

2 months ago, someone stole Cassandra’s dog from her home in Montana. The police tracked the thief down in West Virginia, 2000 miles away. That’s when Many Paws Volunteer Transport got to work. Since Zeus is a pit bull, and not allowed on many airlines, 15 volunteers formed a tag team and drove him home!

If you live anywhere near Pittsburgh Pennsylvania, you might want to go to the Carnegie Science Center on New Year’s Day. They’ll be having their annual MessFest! Pudding-eating contests, egg-drop experiments, finger painting, and making slimey oobleck, are just some of the messy activities that will be happening. Dress for a mess!

Today is Bicarbonate Of Soda Day. What do you do with sodium bicarbonate, better known as baking soda? You can use it to bake cookies, clean pans, brush your teeth, or make a volcano! It’s also Falling Needles Family Fest Day. Make a family event of cleaning up after the Christmas tree.

A couple in South Australia was shocked by a discovery in their kitchen! The dishwasher had just gone through a 2 1/2 hour wash cycle, but a venomous Eastern brown snake was slithering around their clean dishes when they opened the door. Snake Catchers Adelaide safely removed the snake, who’d probably entered through the drain pipe.

Last month at the National STEM Competition, 14-year-old girls won all 5 top prizes. Alaina Gassler found a way to reduce blind spots in cars. Sidor Clare invented bricks to be used on Mars. Rachel Bergey created a trap for invasive Spotted Lanterflies. Lauren Ejiaga researched UV light, and Alexis MacAvoy developed new water filters!

The Pittsburgh Zoo in Pennsylvania, introduced a couple of new babies last week. 2 clouded leopard cubs were born last month, to mom Saya and dad Pi. The cubs aren’t named yet, but they are starting to open their eyes, and gaining strength to pull themselves up. Soon, they’ll start crawling, and be even cuter!

The country of Egypt is mostly desert. Desert-spread is threatening to take over even more land, so scientists developed a way to grow a forest instead. The Serapium Forest is fed by wastewater from the city of Ismailia. The nitrogen-rich sewage water is treated in underground vats, then distributed to help the forest grow.
