Yesterday at sundown, Hanukkah, the Festival of Lights, began. The Jewish holiday commemorates an ancient miracle in the Holy Temple in Jerusalem. A one-day supply of oil lit a menorah, which is a type of candelabra, for 8 days. Hanukkah is celebrated for 8 days by lighting the menorah to prayers, songs, food, gifts and games.

Travis Casagrande is a researcher at the Canadian Center for Electron Microscopy. He used their electron microscope to make the world’s smallest gingerbread house. The house is actually carved in silicon, and sits on a snowman’s head like a teeny-tiny hat. The snowman itself, is smaller than the width of a human hair!

4-year-old Isla Glaser knows how to handle a scary situation. When her mom collapsed unconscious, Isla called 9-1-1. After moving a chair to reach the door lock, she kept their dogs under control while rescuers entered, and calmed down her 3 little brothers and sister. The police honored her bravery, that helped save her mother’s life.

2 new species of ants were discovered in Texas. Since the tiny queen ants ride the backs of larger ant queens, from other colonies, they were named rodeo ants. Their jaws are specially-shaped to grip the larger ant’s waist, hitching a ride to a colony already filled plenty of food.

In Olympia Washington, Josh Phillips and his friend spotted an unlikely pair on the water. A couple of Steller sea lions, were relaxing on top of a small boat. Since the animals can grow up to 11 feet long and 2500 pounds, it made the boat look like a dinghy, that was about to sink!

Today is Date Nut Bread Day. No silly, you aren’t supposed to date a nut. It’s a sweet bread full of dates and nuts. People in Egypt and the Middle East have been cultivating dates, a fruit that grows on palm trees, for 6000 years! You should bake some delicious bread today!

People who steal packages from other people’s porches, sometimes get what they deserve. YouTuber Tom Mabe’s packages kept getting stolen, so he built a bait box. The fake package was filled with poop, and set to explode 40 seconds after it was moved. He recorded the thief throwing the box from his poop-splattered car!

Soap comes in scents that sound good enough to eat, like almond cookie, toasted coconut, or peppermint. Now you can also get Mountain Dew Body Wash Blast! Mountain Dew had photoshopped a picture as a joke 2 years ago, but so many people wanted it, that the soda-scented soap is now a reality!

Did you know there are cotton candy planets? They don’t exist in our Solar System, but they’ve been spotted around the Kepler 51 star. Also called super-puffs, the objects are very young planets that are the size of Jupiter, but with a light and airy density like cotton candy. They probably wouldn’t taste very good.
