Erasing Blind Spots

14-year-old Alaina Glasser’s invention could save lives. Cars have blind spots, which are areas around the vehicle, that the driver can’t see in their mirrors. Alaina developed a system that uses a webcam, to project the hidden areas onto the inside of the car. The Pennsylvania teen’s project, won the $25,000 Samueli Foundation Prize!

Fee-Free Libraries

Chicago Illinois is the first big American city, to do away with library late fees. As a result, more people have been visiting the library, and bringing their overdue books with them. Book returns have increased by an amazing 240%! It’s more fun to check out books, when you don’t have to worry about fines.

The Sun Has a Freckle

Amateur astronomers in North America, are excited about Monday’s special event. Mercury will become a black dot, silhouetted against the sun, and spend 6 hours moving across to the other side. People with a special sun filter can watch through a telescope. The rest of us can keep our eyes safe, and watch online!

Saying Thanks With More Than Words

8-year-old Tyler Stallings, has spent half his life helping homeless veterans! He’s been making Hero Bags, filled with clothes, toothbrushes, and other necessities, for veterans. Tyler has also raised over $40,000, to help thank them for their service. He’s even co-authored a book, called “Including Stories That Make A Difference By 75 Kids Who Changed Their Worlds.”
