Today is National Candy Corn Day. The yellow-white-and-orange candies were invented in the 1800’s. Did you know you can stack them up to look like an ear of corn? Try it! Then get ready for this evening. It’s Haunted Refrigerator Night! Time to clean out all the spooky leftovers hiding way in the back!

A long-lost painting, created in the 13th century by Cimabue, wasn’t lost at all. It had been hanging in the kitchen of a French woman for years. She decided to have the painting appraised, and was shocked to find it was one of only 11 surviving paintings by the artist. It sold at auction for $2,800,000!

A group of high school students in the Philippines, invented a generator that creates electricity, from sound waves! Their device can power a small light, and cost them only $4 in materials. Noisy spots like an airport runway, could produce much more energy. They won the Silver Award in the Young Inventors Challenge.

A new exhibit opened in Toronto Canada, called the Dr. Seuss Experience. Interactive installations were inspired by Dr. Seuss books like “The Lorax”, “Green Eggs and Ham”, and “The Cat in the Hat”. Swing among the Truffala trees, listen for Whos in a giant clover field, or meet Thing 1 and Thing 2!

Wearing a costume is fun, but it’s not just for living objects. One year, a Burger King was dressed up as a McDonald’s! There’s an abandoned mixer off a concrete truck in Oklahoma, that was decorated to look like a NASA space capsule. In Germany, a painted observatory looks like a giant R2-D2!

In Las Vegas Nevada, teams competed in the Housekeeping Olympics. Hotel employees took place in events like confetti-vacuuming, bed-making, and toilet paper roll-tossing. The Venetian housekeepers came in first, while teams from The Mirage and Circus Circus took second and third. Now go train for the Olympics, by making your bed!

A North Carolina man with cancer, was happy because he was going to his last chemotherapy treatment. He decided to buy a lottery ticket for 1 dollar, which won $5. He traded it for a 5 dollar ticket, and impulsively bought a second ticket. That ticket won $200,000! What a lucky day for him!

The French company Carbios, has created a way to recycle plastics using enzymes. The substance can break down any type of plastic, from contaminated food trays to polyester shirts, in hours. The resulting liquid is pure enough to make new bottles. Until we can stop using plastic altogether, it’s the best recycling solution.

Halloween is coming, which means you can buy candy corn. Someone loved candy corn so much, that they baked it onto their pizza. Apparently, it made the pizza moist and tasted disgusting, just as you’d expect. Perhaps you should try Christmas Tree flavor crisps instead. They’re potato chips flavored with pine salt!
