Paolo Ballesteros can beat you in a staring contest. If you want to prove me wrong, see how long you can go without blinking. Paolo’s record is 1 hour, 17 minutes, and 3 seconds! He’s an actor in the Philippines. He would be great at playing a robot or a dead guy!

Many kids in the United States don’t have access to washing machines to clean their clothes, and it can cause them to miss school. The Whirlpool company has started the Care Counts laundry program, which provides washing machines and dryers to schools. It has improved attendance in 82 schools so far!

Tonight may be a good night to see some meteors! The Draconid meteor shower should be visible in the early evening, and is caused by debris from the 21P/Giacobini-Zinner Comet. The Comet 2P/Encke is responsible for the South Taurid meteor shower. Debris burns up in the atmosphere, creating fireballs that streak across the sky.

Did you know it’s Curious Events Day? Celebrate all the strange things in the world, like how it’s impossible to sneeze with your eyes open, or historical events, like when meat fell from the sky in Kentucky. It’s also World Post Day, so send someone a postcard or letter. Don’t forget an interesting stamp!

Today is Bring Your Teddy Bear To Work & School Day! Maybe your teddy will learn something new, but he’ll for sure make everyone smile! It’s also Moldy Cheese Day. Not all mold is bad. Varieties of cheese like Gorgonzola and Camembert, are encouraged to grow mold. That’s what makes them so delicious!

A man in Tennessee was at a customer’s home, when he heard someone honking the horn in his work van. He went out to investigate, and found that 2 bear cubs had locked themselves inside, along with his keys! They had fun honking the horn like kids, while he worked on getting the door unlocked.

Guinness World Record-holder David Rush, nearly set another record, for identifying the most ice cream flavors while blindfolded, in one minute. He was in the middle of saying the tie-breaking 12th flavor, Java Chip, when the timer went off, so it didn’t count. He’ll have to practice eating more ice cream, and try again!

When 15-year-old Taryn Everdeen wrote a letter to her favorite author, she never dreamed she’d work with her. 84-year-old Carolyn Meyer, who wrote the “Young Royals” series, was blown away by Taryn’s letter. She invited the teenager to come visit, and write a book together! They’ve finished the first draft of “Mirror of Time.”

17-year-old Tyra Winters was riding on a float in her school’s homecoming parade, when she saw a woman yelling for help. Her 2-year-old was choking on candy, so Tyra jumped down to the rescue. The cheerleader had learned to help choking children, from her mom in the medical field. She saved the toddler’s life!
