Teaching Kindness

The University of California in Los Angeles will open the first research institute, on kindness! They will research how being kind can affect health, how kindness spreads, and how kindness improves societies. You don’t have to go to college, to know that being nice to others makes everyone involved feel happier!

Ditch the Delicate Cycle

When you wash clothes made from materials like polyester, nylon, or acrylic, tiny plastic microfibers are released into the water, and eventually end up in the oceans. Researchers found that using the delicate setting on your washing machine, actually makes it worse! Delicate cycles use more water, which releases 800,000 more microfibers than regular cycles!

Fridays For Future

Marches and strikes for the Earth will continue today, for Global Climate Strike Action Week. 16-year-old Greta Thunberg has inspired millions of people around the world to demand action, to protect our planet from global warming. She first started Fridays For Future by protesting by herself every week. One person can change the world!

Prehistoric Sippy-Cups

2500 years ago, a child drank from a ceramic sippy-cup. Scientists analyzed the residue to see what was in the cup, and concluded it was milk. Small cups with spouts, some shaped like animals, have been found dating all the way back to 5,500 BCE! 7,500 years ago, parents still didn’t want their kids spilling drinks!

Signs for the Bees

In Sweden, McDonald’s restaurants have found a way to help bees. They’re drilling holes in their billboards, and turning them into honeybee hotels! The huge roadside ads have plenty of space on the back for bee houses. They aren’t fancy, like the McHive mini Mcdonald’s restaurant created last May, but they provide shelter.
