The Orcas Christian School on Orcas Island in Washington, turned their lawn into a garden. Instead of using water to grow grass, then using fuel to cut it down again, the students planted vegetables to feed the community! They use the organic food in their cafeteria, and donate to the local food banks.

Today is Binge Day, for people who want to watch every episode of a TV show at once. But it’s Fitness Day as well, so do it while you’re on an exercise bike or treadmill! Cooking nutritious meals also keeps you fit. Luckily, it’s Cooking Day, and Better Breakfast Day. Start your day healthy!

What do you dream of doing during your lifetime? Don’t forget Comic Book Day! Maybe you can create a comic book about your math dream!

A tortilla is kind of like a floppy frisbee, so it’s not surprising that they glide nicely through the air. Idaho man David Rush, who holds more than 100 world records, set a new record for furthest tortilla throw. His tortilla flew 54 feet, 5 inches! He did not try to throw beans or guacamole at it.

Have you ever wanted to pretend you were a banana? There’s a hammock for that! Dutchware sells a hammock, printed to look like a ripe banana peel. You can wrap yourself up in it and take a nap, hanging in the trees. Just be sure there are no gorillas around to snack on you!

This week, the United Nations Environment Program gave a Champions of the Earth award to Ant Forest. The Chinese company encourages people to do things like take public transportation, and rewards them with green energy points. Enough earned points, helps a tree get planted. In 3 years, Ant Forest has planted 122,000,000 trees!

Reed Hayes started a company called Rendever, that helps people in hospitals and senior living centers go scuba diving, hiking, or travel, with virtual reality headsets! He discovered that patients with dementia, really enjoyed experiencing virtual reality. Families can even upload videos, to let them attend a wedding or help them remember the past!

Today is an exciting day: National Punctuation Day! Try to write a story that uses all the punctuation marks, but use them correctly. Just because a word ends in “s”, doesn’t mean it needs an apostrophe! It’s also Cherries Jubilee Day, which is a fun dessert because the cherries are set on fire!

Students at Indiana University used 60 gallons of wheat paste, and comment cards from Martin’s grocery store, to make a 14-foot tall papier-mâché sculpture. Martin’s brought the comment cards to the University’s Fine Arts Club, and asked them to create a work of art. The abstract artwork is the tallest papier-mâché sculpture in the world!

Lots of important experiments take place at the International Space Station. One that will happen soon involves baking cookies! The Zero G Kitchen will use Nanoracks in their space oven, that will allow cookies to expand in all directions. Since gravity won’t be pulling them down on a tray, they’ll probably be spherical blobs!
