How to Deal With Floating Poo

Astronaut Peggy Whitson, who’s spent 665 days on the International Space Station, says using the toilet in space can get a little gross. Everything gets sucked away by a fan since there is no gravity. But when the toilet starts filling up, you have to push the poop down with your hand! That’s pretty disgusting.

Astronauts Blast Off

Will you be traveling over the holidays? So are the astronauts who blasted off yesterday! The Soyuz capsule launched from Kazakhstan carrying Anton Shkaplerov from Russia, Norishige Kanai from Japan and Scott Tingle from the United States. They are headed for the International Space Station orbiting 240 miles above Earth.

Design a tool to be used in space!

Do you think you could design a tool that would be useful in space? Students can use free 3D design software to create a new combination tool from two tools already being used on the International Space Station. The best design will be 3D printed in space! Look for the Two for the Crew Challenge on NASA.gov and submit your idea before December 19th! Maybe you’ll grow up to be an astronaut and get to use your own invention!
