Brazilian surfer Rodrigo Koxa is an official world record holder. At the 2018 Big Wave Awards, it was announced that his ride on an 80 foot wave in Nazare Portugal last November, was the highest wave ever surfed! His competitor, Britain’s Andrew Cotton, won the Wipeout of the Year Award on a similar wave that day. He’s still recovering!

In March, Portugal generated enough renewable energy through wind and hydro power to supply the entire country with power for a month! By converting wind and water to electricity, Portugal saved the Earth’s atmosphere from 1.8 million tons of carbon dioxide. I hope more countries will follow their lead. Thank you, Portugal, for giving the planet cleaner air!

Nazare Portugal is known for its massive waves, and Hugo Vau has surfed one of the biggest ones yet. The wave, nicknamed “Big Mama”, was a staggering 114 feet tall, taller than a 10 story building! If the height is confirmed, Hugo will hold the record for largest wave ever surfed. Gnarly!
