Don’t Throw Those Old Markers Away

Here’s a great recycling idea for the end of the school year. Put a box out at your school to collect old, dried up markers. Then go to the Crayola website, print out a free shipping label, and Fed Ex will pick up and deliver them to Crayola to recycle! Great job!

Stop Eating that Gummy Galafanakis

The University of Arkansas has opened an exhibit of artist Jason Mecier’s collages. He can make a portrait of anybody out of anything: like Judge Judy out of Hot Tamales, Kevin Bacon out of bacon, and Willie Nelson out of stuff from the junk drawer! Mecier recycles trash into amazing art!

My Shoes Are Environmentalists

Do your shoes keep plastic from polluting the ocean? Adidas has sold 1 million Ultraboost shoes made from plastic trash collected on beaches. The Parley for the Ocean organization tries to find uses for plastic waste before it ends up in oceans or landfills, and a pair of shoes uses about 11 bottles worth of plastic.

Milkmen Deliver Better Recycling Habits

Most people these days buy milk from a grocery store. But after watching Blue Planet II, a BBC documentary encouraging recycling, more people in England are getting their milk from milkmen again. Dairy delivery companies reuse glass milk bottles, which is the best way to recycle. Or you can just get a cow!

The Best Use for an Old Christmas Tree

Soon people will be taking down Christmas decorations. Many communities have recycling programs to pick up live Christmas trees. Some trees are turned into mulch, while others are submerged in lakes to make underwater fish habitats. But the Turpentine Creek Wildlife Refuge gives trees to lions and tigers to use as scratching posts!
