If you set sail from Pakistan and never adjusted course, you’d pass between Africa and Madagascar, then between Antarctica and Tierra Del Fuego in South America, and finally end up in Russia nearly 20,000 miles later!

As Orange as Snow?

Across Eastern Europe, it looks like Mars. In Bulgaria, Ukraine, Moldova, Romania and Russia, the snow is orange! It turns out there was a big sandstorm in the Sahara Desert. Fine particles of orange sand were lifted into the atmosphere, traveled over 2000 miles, and came back down mixed with snow!

Astronauts Blast Off

Will you be traveling over the holidays? So are the astronauts who blasted off yesterday! The Soyuz capsule launched from Kazakhstan carrying Anton Shkaplerov from Russia, Norishige Kanai from Japan and Scott Tingle from the United States. They are headed for the International Space Station orbiting 240 miles above Earth.

Russia Banned from Olympics

The International Olympic Committee has banned Russia from competing in the 2018 Winter Olympics. After the 2014 Olympics, many Russian athletes were stripped of their medals after it was found they had been doping, which is using illegal performance enhancing drugs. Athletes who prove they’re clean can compete under a neutral flag. Moral: don’t use drugs!
