First Plane Powered with No Moving Parts
Engineers at MIT have built a silent airplane with no moving parts. Instead of being powered by propellers or turbines, the aircraft uses ionic wind. Energized wires beneath the wings ionize air molecules, which flow toward electrodes at the back of the plane, creating thrust. The plane weighs 5 pounds, and has a 16 foot wingspan.
