Earlier this month, a mom in Australia cut up an orange for her son, which started turning purple overnight. Scientists have finally figured out why. Her knife had recently been sharpened, and particles of iron were left on its surface. The iron reacted with anthocyanins, a pigment found naturally in oranges. Mystery solved!
