Tipsy Pigeon Crowned Bird of the Year
New Zealand has named its “Bird of the Year,” and it’s a drunk pigeon. The kereru, also called kuku or kukupa, is 20 inches long, and makes impressive dives through the air with a distinctive whooshing sound. Wood pigeons eat rotting, fermented fruit that leaves them so intoxicated, they fall out of trees!
